On the subject of DPP primary, whoever comes out as a candidate for 2020 Presidential election would a slim chance to win due to the division and self-destruction within the party. It says it all in US re-election history below for your reference.
1992: Pat Buchanan vs George H. W. Bush
1980: Ted Kennedy vs Jimmy Carter
1976: Ronald Reagan vs Gerald Ford
1972: Pete McCloskey vs Richard Nixon
1968: Eugene McCarthy vs Lyndon Johnson
1952: Estes Kefauver vs Harry Truman
As you see, only very popular Nixon in 1972 won his second term.
